TechTALK: Technical Questions

Researcher: How many mRNA isolations can be run with the MPG® Direct mRNA Purification Kits?

TechTALKer: This is one of the most common questions asked since we do not sell these kits on a per reaction basis. The reason for this is that the amount of mRNA needed to be isolated is dependent on the application for which the isolated mRNA is going to be used. For example, RT-PCR requires less than 1 µg of mRNA for each assay, whereas detection of a poorly expressed gene by Northern Blot analysis might require 5-10 µg of mRNA per lane. Since the kits are designed to isolate a minimum of 40 µg of mRNA per kit, the first example would allow for 40 purifications, while the second example allows for 4-8 purifications. In other words, this kit is completely scaleable. Each kit comes with enough reagents to isolate a minimum of 40 µg of pure, intact mRNA from tissue or cell lysates.
