Avoid PCR Workstation Contamination Goto Product in Catalog

Eliminate PCR Artifacts

Presence of contaminant DNA at PCR work areas can result in DNA amplification artifacts. DNA-OFF® is a specially formulated non-alkaline cleansing solution that is highly effective at removing DNA contamination. It is intended for use at PCR workstations; including countertops, apparatus and pipettors. By following the simple decontamination instructions, DNA is completely removed, leaving your PCR work area free of contaminant DNA.

Figure 1: Effectiveness of DNA-Off® at removal of DNA contamination.

Increasing amounts of p53 template DNA were dried onto the bottom of thin wall PCR tubes. DNA-OFF® (100 µl) was added to the tubes as indicated and 100 µl ddH2O was added to the control tube. Each tube was vortexed for 20 seconds followed by two 100 µl washes with ddH2O. PCR reaction mix, containing 15 pg IL-1b DNA template, and both IL-1b and p53 primers, were added to each tube and run for 35 cycles. PCR products were resolved on a 1.2% agarose gel (1X TAE) and visualized by EtBr staining.

Proven Effective for Complete DNA Decontamination

DNA-OFF® solution contains a surfactant plus an agent that destroys DNA. Figure 1 demonstrates the effectiveness of removing dried-on DNA contamination. Increasing amounts of p53 DNA template (contaminant) were added and dried onto the bottom of 0.2 ml thin-wall PCR tubes, and then rinsed with either water or DNA-OFF® followed by two washes with water. A second control template (IL-1b) was then added along with PCR reagents and then subjected to 35 cycles of amplification. The Figure shows that DNA-OFF® is effective at removing at least 30 pg of DNA, as evidenced by the absence of p53 amplicon in the DNA-OFF®-treated samples.

DNA-OFF® is stable, heat resistant, non corrosive, and non-carcinogenic. It comes ready to use in an economical and convenient 500 ml polypropylene flip top dispenser.
